Rado Celebrates 40 Years of Tennis
A legacy honoured at the Mubadala Citi DC
Open Rado, the Swiss watch brand renowned for its mastery of materials and design, proudly renews its partnership as Official Sponsor and Official Timekeeper with the Mubadala Citi DC Open, taking place from July 19 to July 27, 2025, at Washington DC’s Rock Creek Park Tennis Center.
The Mubadala Citi DC Open is the world’s first and only combined ATP & WTA 500 event. Founded in 1969 to support Arthur Ashe’s vision of playing a professional tennis tournament in a public park with full access to everyone, it has grown into the fifth-largest professional tennis tournament in the United States and the longest running at a single site. Set in the heart of Washington, D.C., the tournament draws top athletes, influential leaders, and tennis enthusiasts from around the world.
This year marks a significant milestone: 40 years since Rado’s first foray into the world of professional tennis. To celebrate this enduring legacy, Rado is unveiling a commemorative timepiece that blends innovation, heritage, and design—continuing the brand’s journey at the intersection of sport and style.
“We are thrilled to continue our partnership with Rado, a brand that shares our commitment to excellence, innovation and the timeless spirit of tennis. As we celebrate 40 years of Rado’s contributions to the sport, having such an iconic company as our Official Timekeeper adds prestige and precision to the Mubadala Citi DC Open, a tournament rooted in history, community and world-class competition,” said Mark Ein, Chairman of the Mubadala Citi DC Open.
Adrian Bosshard, CEO of Rado, adds: “the collaboration with Mubadala Citi DC Open is a perfect match. Rado and tennis share some essential values and the same ambition to redefine the limits of what is possible. Each timepiece and every game tells a story of strategy, precision and emotion. We are thrilled to continue our partnership with the Mubadala Citi DC Open and we are looking forward to another exciting and successful tournament in Washington.”
Rado x Tennis: 40 Years of Shared Values
Over the past four decades, tennis has evolved remarkably. Since 1985, innovations in racket design, ball composition, and surface technology have transformed the game—delivering greater power, precision, and speed. Today’s courts are equipped with advanced systems like electronic line calling, increasing accuracy and reducing human error. Precision has never mattered more.
As the Master of Materials, Rado is inspired by this ongoing transformation—by how technology shapes performance, structure, and aesthetics. It’s a view into our world, where progress and design go hand in hand. This year Rado celebrates forty years of shared values with tennis, reflecting the strategy, complexity and precision in every move. Our contemporary designs, crafted in high-tech ceramic, embody the resilience, individuality, and excellence seen in the game’s top athletes.
Since entering the tennis world in 1985, Rado has remained a dedicated partner to the sport, serving as Official Timekeeper at several major ATP and WTA tournaments including the Abierto Mexicano Acapulco, Los Cabos Open, BMW Open in Munich, Erste Bank Open Vienna, EFG Swiss Open Gstaad, Swiss Indoors Basel, and of course Mubadala Citi DC Open.
