About the Mubadala Citi DC Open
The Mubadala Citi DC Open has a special place on the international tennis calendar. It was founded in 1969 to support the legendary Arthur Ashe’s vision of playing a professional tennis tournament in a public park, with full access to everyone. Taking place in the heart of Washington DC, it attracts not only the game’s greatest players but leading government officials, business leaders, diplomats, and celebrities. It has shown impressive growth in its 53-year history. The longest-running professional tournament at the same site in the US, the Mubadala Citi DC Open is now the fifth biggest pro tennis event in the country. In 2022, all 11 sessions sold out completely and the organizers are looking forward to another successful year when the Mubadala City DC. Open becomes the world’s first-ever joint ATP 500/WTA 500 event. Rado is thrilled to be a major part of the story.
Mark Ein, the Chairman of the Mubadala Citi DC Open, welcomed Rado enthusiastically, saying, “Our tournament strives for world-class excellence and a ‘spirit of generosity’ in everything we do. We look for partners who share the mindset so are thrilled to announce that Rado is our official timekeeping partner.” He added, Rado and the Mubadala Citi DC Open are totally aligned in our values and we know our fans will love to check out their Captain Cook High Tech Ceramic Skeleton and other masterpieces when they come this summer.”

Adrian Bosshard, the CEO of Rado, is also excited about the collaboration. He says, "Tennis has long been a sporting expression of the values that define our brand: relentless determination and our unbreakable will to test our own limits over and over again. And with the Mubadala Citi DC Open, we have partners who, with each edition of the tournament, commit themselves to delivering a world-class competition that not only features some of the games best players but also supports a worthy foundation. We’re thrilled to be part of it and can’t wait for the first serve.”

Benefitting the Washington Tennis and Education Foundation (WTEF)
The Mubadala Citi DC Open is proud to have provided substantial funding to the WTEF, along with a platform that helps build life champions through tennis and academic excellence, providing underserved kids a safe environment where they can excel. Every summer, the Mubadala Citi DC Open tournament hosts hundreds of WTEF kids and offers them the unique opportunity to meet players, participate in instructional clinics with top pros, and more.

Rado and Tennis
Rado can trace its close association with tennis back to 1985, when it installed its first corner clocks at the Swiss Open in Gstaad. It has remained one of the sport’s leading timekeepers ever since. To this day, Rado’s partnerships with leading tennis events around the world remain an important part of its brand identity. In fact, Rado’s commitment to tennis goes far beyond timekeeping. Through its YoungStar program, the brand has partnered with some of the most promising talents in the game, accompanying them every step of the way in their pursuit of perfection and their demonstration of endurance, strength of character, and dynamism – the very values that define Rado itself. Some of these inspiring players have gone on to be superstars and tennis luminaries.

The Rado Captain Cook High Tech Ceramic Skeleton watch
Along with its timekeeping and sponsorship activities, Rado will highlight one of the year’s most talked-about watches at the Mubadala Citi DC Open, the Captain Cook High Tech Ceramic Skeleton watch. Its plasma high-tech ceramic matt monobloc case offers the surface resistance watch aficionados expect from Rado, and a glance at the dial offers an unobstructed view of the innovative skeletonized R808 movement, which has been fully tested in five positions and which offers a power reserve of some 80 hours.

Inside the rotatable bezel, a warm and bright rose-gold-colored index ring adds contrast, next to the familiar Captain Cook box-shaped sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating on both faces. The sapphire crystal’s lightly smoked tint enhances the watch’s almost otherworldly feel and adds to the legibility of the dial, complementing the plasma grey and rose-gold-color touches throughout. A look at the titanium caseback is every bit as rewarding: it also has a sapphire crystal that offers a clear and unobstructed view of the movement and the core watch components. The screw-in crown sports the familiar Rado brand anchor symbol.

The understated dial features simple geometric indices and hour, minute and second hands, treated with Super-LumiNova®, which enhances readability in all lighting conditions. The trademark Rado moving-anchor symbol features a smart, tasteful deep-red background color along with the logo, name and water-resistance indications. Presented on a plasma high-tech ceramic bracelet with a triple-fold clasp and Ceramos™ pushbuttons, the Rado Captain Cook HTC Skeleton is water resistant to 30 bar (300 meters).
