Terms & Conditions of the Rado Star Prize Taiwan 2016

DESCRIPTION

The Rado Star Prize Taiwan 2016 is organised by Rado Watch Co. Ltd in its capacity as World Design Partner of the World Design Capital Taipei 2016. The Rado Star Prize Taiwan 2016 aims to support a design student/non-professional designer in starting a career in design within Taiwan. The scope of the competition is to create / present a design object linked to the theme “DESIGN IN MOTION”. An object, which is multifunctional by turning or moving it around, innovative in use of material and has the potential to unlock a lighter – and more sustainable –way of living.

The competition offers two prizes:

1. The Jury Prize (Winner of Rado Star Prize Taiwan 2016.)

  • A cash prize of 200’000 TWD
  • A place on a future RSP Taiwan jury
  • A presentation of the winning project on Rado’s website and social media channels
  • A Rado watch

2. The Designer’s Choice Prize

  • A Rado watch

A jury will nominate 10 finalists and then decide the winner of the Jury Prize. Out of the 10 finalists the Participants may elect the winner of the Designer’s Choice Prize. A finalist may not vote for his/her own project to win.

 

GENERAL TERMS AND CONDITIONS

No purchase or payment of any kind is necessary to participate in or win the Rado Star Prize Taiwan 2016 competition.

Participants:

  • must be over 18 years of age and resident in Taiwan
  • may not be professional designers but rather studying a design discipline or otherwise aiming to become adesigner
  • may only enter one design

Group or collaborative entries will not be accepted.

All designs must be the original work of the Participant. Designs cannot be previously published or exhibited.

Employees of Rado, of any of Rado’s affiliates and of commissioned agents and agencies, employees of World Design Capital Taipei 2016 (i.e. employees of City of Taipei and Taiwan Design Center), as well as persons living in the same household with such employees are not eligible to enter this competition nor are they allowed to carry out, assist or consult in any way an entry to the competition. Similarly, relatives of a jury member (including but not restricted to design firms, teams, family members etc.) are not eligible to take part in the competition. Any such persons entering will be immediately disqualified from the competition.

 

JURY PRIZE

The jury, made up of professionals from the world of design and from Rado, will evaluate the designs submitted and select the ten finalists, as well as the winner of the competition. Rado reserves the right to substitute a member of the jury due to illness or unavailability.

While Rado will be the point of contact between the Participants and the jury, Rado will ensure that any identifiable data of entrants will not be disclosed to the jury prior to the announcement of the ten finalists and the eventual winner of the Jury Prize. Thus, all judging decisions will be anonymous.

Rado will further ensure that jury decisions are made according to the deadlines set and to the criteria stated, but will not interfere in any way in the judging process or decisions. The jury’s decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into. No information about the jury’s decision or deliberation process will be made public.

 

DESIGNER’S CHOICE PRIZE

Every Participant to the Rado Star Prize Taiwan 2016 will be given one vote to cast from among the ten finalists chosen by the jury. The finalist receiving the most votes from the other entrants will receive the Designer’s Choice Prize.

 

ENTRY PROCESS AND REQUIREMENTS

To enter the competition each Participant must visit the RadoStarPrize website (www.rado.com/radostarprize-taiwan) and submit:

  • their name, address, email address and a short biography
  • the field of design of the project, a short description of the project and how its different functions (at least 2)
  • at least one visual, sketch or drawing of the project

Participants not fulfilling these Terms and Conditions as well as those entering a false name or address may be disqualified.

Projects will be accepted from the following fields of design:

Product design, Graphic design, Industrial design, Interior design, Lighting design.

Any design incorporating a design for a watch or other timepiece will not be accepted or considered.

The website will be open for submissions from Friday 18th March 2016 and the closing date for entries is Monday August 22nd at midnight CTS.

Rado will be responsible for the safety of all submissions received and will confirm receipt via email with an individual reference number. Submissions can be made electronically only and as such will not be returned to the Participant.

Rado is not responsible for disappointment suffered by any person not being able to take part in the competition for technical reasons outside of Rado’s control (eg: insufficient internet access at the private/public place from which a person wishes to submit their entry) and Rado will not be liable for entries into the competition that are lost, misdirected, delayed or corrupted, for technical reasons or otherwise.

The winner of each prize will be notified by email in September 2016 and will be announced using their first and last name with their winning design 1) on the Rado Star Prize website, 2) on rado.com 3) on Rado the Official Facebook Page 4) via Rado Twitter.

If a winner is not reachable or does not reply to the prize notification within 7 (seven) days, the prize will be forfeited and awarded to another entrant selected by the jury.

Prizes are not transferable and no alternative prizes or cash equivalent are available.

 

PUBLICITY AND REPRODUCTION OF IMAGES/PROJECT INFORMATION

Participant is aware that by uploading his/her design to the Rado Star Prize website that any third party may have access to the design and could use it unlawfully. Rado cannot control such unlawful third party use. Participant waives any right to claim from Rado damages for any third party use.

By submitting their design, Participants confirm that they are the authors of such designs. In addition, Participants confirm that their design does not show any content that is otherwise unlawful, harmful, threatening, abusive, harassing, defamatory or vulgar, or which infringes any trademark, copyright, design or other right of any third party. Participants will hold Rado and its officers, employees and affiliates harmless from and against any losses, claims, damages and costs resulting from any violation of these terms.

Participants whose entries do not comply with the above terms or which are rude, abusive or deemed otherwiseunsuitable will be excluded from the competition.

The intellectual property rights of the design shall remain the property of the Participant. It is the responsibility of theParticipants to protect the intellectual property of his/her design before entering the competition if deemed necessary. Rado will not be liable for infringement of any intellectual property of third parties once the designs are in the public domain.

By submitting their design, all Participants – including those not selected as finalists or winners - grant Rado the right to use their entry for marketing purposes only without granting Rado any right to change or reproduce the design. This right of use will begin on the day the winners are announced and will continue for ten (10) years. Irrespective of Rado’s right to use the entries for marketing purposes in relation to the Rado Star Prize, the prize money does not include remuneration for the use of the Participant’s intellectual property rights.

Winners may, without any obligation, be asked to take part in or co-operate with publicity which may include the publication of their name and/or image.

Rado reserves the right to amend these rules at any time, and to modify, suspend or terminate the competition in the event that it becomes infected by a computer virus or otherwise technically impaired.

This competition is organised by Rado Watch Co. Ltd., Bielstrasse 45, 2543 Lengnau, Switzerland.
