EVERY SECOND IS AN OPPORTUNITY – CAMERON GREEN
Australian cricket prodigy Cameron Green fronts the latest campaign from Rado that encapsulates the psychological and athletic challenges of the game and highlights the importance of perfect timing on the pitch, and in life.
The Master of Materials’ newest brand ambassador – an all-rounder seen as a once-in-a-generation talent – appears in a series of locker-room portraits and a short film that convey the intensity, power and focus required of cricket’s finest players. “Timing is everything,” narrates Cameron. “Every second is an opportunity.”
The imagery captures the poise of a modern athlete in a sport that demands technical, tactical, energetic and mental prowess, and subtly showcases the intriguing contradictions that characterise modern cricket. Cameron’s youth contrasts with centuries of tradition. The stillness of the locker room and the elegance of his white clothing collide with the protective equipment he wears: the caged helmet, batting pads and gloves reveal the game’s ferocity. The bat itself is wielded as a formidable instrument, yet one of utmost precision. His thoughtful gaze hints at the sheer determination brewing within.
Alongside, the film captures the full dramatic arc of the game – from Cameron’s pre-match rituals, through the elation of the duel, to the rewarding post-match feeling of a battle well-fought. Together, the collection offers a tantalising glimpse into his world.
Exquisite intricacy
Having made his International Cricket Debut for Australia in a One Day International (ODI) game against India in December 2020, he has since gained a reputation as one of the world’s best all-rounders – skilled as a batsman and fast bowler alike. Career highlights so far include being signed to Mumbai Indians in 2022 – a deal, at the time, that made him the second most-expensive overseas player in the history of the Indian Premier League and the most expensive Australian player – before moving to Royal Challengers Bangalore for the 2024 league. He is a regular in the Australian Test and ODI squads, and was part of the winning Australian team in the World Test Championship and ODI World Cup teams in 2023.
In addition to those accomplishments to date, he is regarded as a player with astonishing potential yet to come. That’s why, on his wrist, he wears the Captain Cook High-Tech Ceramic Skeleton, a robust timepiece designed for adventure that perfectly reflects Cameron’s temperament, passion and ambition. This matt black and rose-gold-coloured powerhouse combines Rado’s expertise in materials with the precision of a 25-jewel automatic movement – its exquisite intricacy on full display through the transparent dial and sapphire case back.
Balancing force with finesse
Such a sporty yet stylish watch is the ideal companion for a legend-in-the-making known for balancing force with finesse. Its robust, masculine character comes through in details like well-defined bezel teeth, a screw-down crown and water resistance up to 30 bar (300m), while its rose-gold-coloured embellishments epitomise contemporary style. Both on and off the pitch, the Captain Cook High-Tech Ceramic Skeleton feels unbelievable on the skin too. That comes from the streamlined, monobloc case and the sensation of its high-tech ceramic three-row bracelet – which matches its bezel insert.
The cricket star said: “As a sportsman, I’m fully focused on enhancing my performance, on making intricate adjustments that drive relentless improvements. The Rado Captain Cook High-Tech Ceramic Skeleton is the perfect companion to my life as an athlete and helps me make every moment count. And what’s crucial is that it feels good on my wrist – like an extension of my body.”
Classic yet contemporary, the Rado Captain Cook High-Tech Ceramic Skeleton is ideally suited to Cameron Green as a sportsman and as an expression of the elegance and rigours of cricket today.
Why High-Tech Ceramic? – Because it feels like nothing else….
This is exactly what Rado high-tech ceramic is all about. It's why we say, "Feel it." The ancient origins of its base material render its durability almost inevitable, but it is indeed a great testimonial to the know-how and experience of the "Master of Materials" that it has proven to be true. High-tech ceramic is a beautifully light substance, and one that is also magnificently scratch-resistant.
In itself, all that might be enough qualities to love, in one exceptional material, but surprisingly, it doesn't stop there. Not only is ceramic durable and impervious to almost everything, it has a rare silkiness to the touch that makes for exquisite comfort against the skin. Place it over a human wrist — fine, large, gentle or rugged, and it feels like it was made to be there — since forever. This is of course particularly true for timepieces making use of ceramic elements also in their bracelet, where the sensory experience becomes total and absolutely unforgettable.
About High-Tech Ceramic
Chronologically-speaking, high-tech ceramic was first introduced by Rado in 1986. Its sensuous feel, durability, scratch resistance and surprising light weight, quickly conquered the hearts of watch enthusiasts the world over. Though related in some respects to more common forms of ceramics we all know, high-tech ceramic is truly a product of advanced science. Under highly exacting conditions, extremely pure and finely calibrated powders of aluminium oxide, zirconium oxide and silicon nitride with perfectly uniform grain sizes, are shaped into a particular form then baked at high temperature to create an object or a watch case of the desired dimensions and properties. New methods developed by Rado involve the use of a plastic carrier medium mixed with the mineral powders, to allow injection into precision moulds at pressures around 1000 bar. Once cooled, the pieces are removed from their parent mould and the carrier agent dissolved in a standard chemical solvent process, prior to a final sintering phase at 1450°C. This precisely controlled sintering is what makes possible the extraordinary level of density and hardness of High-Tech Ceramic, over regular ceramic. The procedure is true rocket-science territory, as the dimensions of the first moulded elements shrink during sintering; the particles tighten up as porosity disappears and precise calculations must take into account this important change of around 23% in the dimensions. The reward is a case that now stands at 1,250 on the Vickers scale and is ready for final diamond-tool machining and finishing, into an impressive Rado timepiece.
