Anatom - Another chapter in styling history

Anatom - Another chapter in styling history
When the Rado Anatom was launched in 1983, impressive in all aspects including its futuristic sapphire-crystal glass, the market had been exploring unusual watch formats for a while already, mostly square and rectangular variants, many of them dainty and feminine and meant to be worn mostly as jewellery. As the Anatom evolved, with the designers’ primary focus being on making the new timepiece as harmonious and “anatomical” as possible, its overall look also pushed boundaries in new directions. In addition to the convex or “rounded” sapphire glass, new flowing forms emerged, at the bracelet and case attachments, for instance. Rado’s watchmaking artists had spotted that the new anatomical forms also improved visual flow between those elements. The Anatom was breaking fresh new ground, and harsh angular inflections disappeared in favour of pure, flowing lines which, next to the rounded glass, made the official term “anatomical” an inescapable one. The concept had reached its mission and the futuristic “Anatom” model had truly arrived. The new paradigm reshaped the brand’s overall public image for decades to come.
