Captain Cook 39mm - Ocean Ready

Rado Captain Cook
OCEAN READY
Discover two new Rado Captain Cook models designed to channel the ocean’s most evocative colours – the perfect partners for a day at the beach club, a rooftop pool party in the city or cocktail hour on a yacht. The first gives summer holiday vibes, with a light blue-to-white dial and light blue ceramic bezel insert – a spectrum that’s a first for Rado – that will transport you back to St Barts, to that boat trip you took to the Barrier Reef or your honeymoon bungalow in the Seychelles. It’s pure cloudless skies reflecting on warm, shallow waters – a care-free escape from real life.
Its partner tells a different, though equally powerful, story. A black-to-turquoise dial and black high-tech ceramic bezel insert suggests a more adrenaline-fuelled style of oceanic adventure – of sailing in Costa Rica, deep-sea fishing in Egypt, or cold-water swimming in the Norwegian fjords. Just the sort of enigmatic colours that you might associate with life’s more profound moments.
A smaller case diameter
These intriguing colours are paired with the signature ruggedness of the Captain Cook range. Set on stainless steel cases and bracelets, both watches feel innately sporty. And with water-resistance rated to 300 metres/1000 feet, they’re also practical partners for any water-based activity, so feel free to jump right into the pool after lunch, and say yes to that jet ski trip, without a second thought.
Adding to that practicality – and another first for Rado – is the case diameter of these two timepieces, which introduce a 39mm size to the Captain Cook range, which already includes stainless steel cases at 37mm and 42mm. The new size, along with a case height of just 12mm, widens the appeal of the range to accommodate wrists of all sizes. An extra easter egg: the bracelets’ polished ‘rice grain’ stainless steel components look a little like water droplets, lending a wonderful sense of fluidity.
Accessories with meaning
Inspired by the vintage Rado Captain Cook, introduced in 1962, the functionality of the timepiece is deliberately single-minded, with the automatic movement telling the time and date only. It displays three bold hands and equally sturdy indexes, all inlaid with Super-LumiNova® for unmistakeable visibility in all conditions – highly reflective in white in sunlight, they appear blue when you’re in deeper, darker waters.
Accuracy is essential for any kind of watery exploits, and that’s assured with the Rado calibre R763 movement, which features an 80-hour power reserve and an antimagnetic NivachronTM hairspring for enhanced reliability. The turning bezel, which measures elapsed time, is also super useful in everyday life: in the black/turquoise model bezel markings are also in white/blue Super-LumiNova®, whereas in the light blue timepiece they appear in metallised silver. Those ceramic bezel inserts are a sophisticated detail that showcases one of the Master of Materials’ trademark touches.
Wearing either of these timepieces means a mere glance at your wrist at the beach club or on board a yacht will spark conversations with fellow ocean aficionados about your past experiences on the water, or perhaps inspire tomorrow’s aqua-based adventures. But – just as important – you can also simply admire them for colourways that bring to mind the natural beauty of the ocean.
