The darkness of the nocturnal world was, after all, when the heroine of The Arabian Nights – to give the collection’s other name – devised story after story for her king. With one tale leading to the next over 1,001 nights, the waxing and waning phases of the moon and the steady turning of the constellations in the night sky not only marked the steady passage of time but provided a particularly evocative and romantic backdrop.

A sense of wonder
In the dial, a curving band of 29 Top Wesselton diamonds represents the curvature of the earth – that these are no ordinary gemstones is confirmed by the presence of the word ‘Jubilé’ beneath the Rado logo. Our home planet appears in black mother-of-pearl, bringing tone-on-tone, organic elegance that frames a date window at 6 o’clock. The rest of the dial is composed of an aventurine background decorated with a diamond powder-like finish, bringing a sparkling complexity that looks like a million stars scattered across the galaxy.
Just above the horizon is where you’ll find the moonphase display. In fact, this is the first time Rado has deployed a moonphase complication on a Centrix model. Here, the moon is rendered in rhodium, matching the watch’s hour and minute hands, and reveals the full lunar cycle as it waxes and wanes each month. Each phase emerges like a hidden treasure from a tale in One Thousand and One Nights, which was collated during the Islamic Golden Age, an era associated with major advances in scientific understanding, including astronomy.
Infinite vastness
The dial is protected by a curved sapphire crystal, with a band of black metallisation around its periphery that speaks to the infinite size of the universe, though here everything is neatly contained in a polished stainless steel case. The black and silver aesthetic continues with the bracelet, featuring polished stainless steel outer links and polished black high-tech ceramic middle links.
The starry sky continues with dramatic flair on the case back, where laser-engraved star motifs cascade around the Centrix branding and are bordered by inspirational text that reads: ‘LIMITED EDITON, ONE NIGHT OUT OF 1001’. Inside, a Rado calibre R084 quartz movement purrs along, providing effortless accuracy.
