RISING TO THE CHALLENGE - IN WILDERNESS OR WATER

In a rugged world of permanent challenge, harsh elements and opponents of all shapes and sizes, those able to adapt hold a critical advantage toward survival. The Rado DNA is a true echo of this eternal paradigm, and the new Captain Cook High-Tech Ceramic Diver embodies it beautifully. Equipped with the latest technology, this latest evolution of an early classic now features 80 hours of power reserve and water resistance to strict ISO 6425 specifications. In this skilfully crafted timepiece with famous Swiss reliability, a Rado R763 movement is set inside a stunning high-tech ceramic monobloc case that is at once scratch-resistant, hypo-allergenic and practically invulnerable, ready to match any challenge, in wilderness or everyday life.

The new Captain Cook High-Tech Ceramic Diver is the culmination of decades of research and development by Rado, Switzerland's well-known "Master of Materials". This much-awaited model, available in six equally impressive variants, brings together the latest in high-tech ceramic production technics and the brand's most innovative watchmaking. The new diver is a virile, exploration-inspired 43 mm timepiece with a latest-generation automatic movement, NivachronTM anti-magnetic hairspring and 80 hours of power reserve, tucked inside a practically eternal high-tech ceramic monobloc case. Timepiece lovers will spot notable Captain Cook features such as the date window at 3 o'clock with red numbers—a wink to earlier editions—and the box-shaped glass, now in extremely scratch-resistant sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating on both faces. Large, highly-legible hour, minute and second hands are treated with Super-LumiNova® for excellent viewing in low-light conditions, along with the main markers and bezel numerals. The new model features ISO 6425 certification, a first for Rado, largely surpassed thanks to its 300-meter water resistance. Whether your field of exploration is one of the world's oceans, thick nordic forests or rugged alpine wilderness, your Captain Cook High-Tech Ceramic Diver will be a reliable and solid partner, at your side for years to come.

Rooted in nature but developed by keen human innovation, Rado high-tech ceramic is extremely hard but light, lovely to touch, and carries its visible colour right into the core, making it extraordinarily scratch-resistant. The use of a monobloc case adds to the structural stability of the timepiece while keeping its outer dimensions and weight lower, for greater comfort. Visually, well-known Captain Cook features are instantly recognizable: the bold, easy-grip bezel with circular-brushed high-tech ceramic insert, engraved numbers and markers, as well as a triangle in white Super-LumiNova® at the 60-min. position. On the flip side, a circular-brushed titanium press-fit case back with two seahorses resting quietly in exquisite relief, adds an echo of early Sixties models and an unequivocal reminder of the water resistance, confirmed by the ISO 6425 certification granted to these exceptional timepieces. Inside, the Rado 25-jewel, three-hand R763 automatic movement exceeds standard accuracy test requirements by a full five points.

The new Captain Cook High-Tech Ceramic Diver comes in six models, each one with a distinct character, to match the most discerning tastes of true watch lovers. While all carry cases in Rado high-tech ceramic, two models wear black and two wear olive-green, each pair available as either a rubber-strap or high-tech ceramic-bracelet version. Two additional plasma models are available, with matching high-tech ceramic bracelet.

Life will be the due reward of unwavering explorers who dare to go beyond. Pick your favourite volcano, peak or ocean, and go play.

A DECLARATION OF LOVE IN BLACK AND RED

Hello, dear Valentine! Many countries in the world celebrate a day of love on February 14th. Any man who wants to give his lady love a gift that lasts forever will find the Rado True Heart to be a watch overflowing with love. Enduringly beautiful black high-tech ceramic merges with a sensual red dial that reveals its secret with an open heart: a high-quality automatic movement that counts every second of love. Twelve sparkling diamonds replace the numerals and crown the time spent together, hour by hour.

A message from the heart

An elegant watch like the Rado True Secret is so much more than a piece of jewellery for just one season. The material alone, brilliant black high-tech ceramic from Rado, stands for timeless beauty that no scratch can ever harm. The round, 40-mm diameter case is made using a light monobloc construction method and flows smoothly to the bracelet, which is also made of high-tech ceramic. It wraps snugly around the wrist, giving the wearer an incomparable sense of just how comfortable this material is.

In the Rado True Secret Ceramic, the brilliance of the black ceramic encounters a sensual red, the colour of love. The red appears on the dial in shimmering nuanced hues ranging from dark cherry red to black. The degrade-style colour gradient underscores the mystical aura of this watch, which reveals its secret at 12 o’clock. There, a small round opening offers a glance at the lovingly decorated balance, the vibrating heart of the mechanical movement. With an expanded power reserve of 80 hours, it will always accompany the person you love, even when the watch is set down. Twelve diamonds count the shared hours and symbolise eternity.

With its unique appearance of timeless beauty, its durable materials and high-quality movement inside, the Rado True Secret is undeniable proof of a love of lasting significance. And not just on Valentine’s Day – this watch emits love day by day, and with every glance at the wrist calls to mind the most valuable thing one can give: time spent together.

Hrithik Roshan stars in new Rado campaign

Bollywood celebrity Hrithik Roshan stars in new Rado Captain Cook High-Tech Ceramic campaign
Known for living on the edge, Bollywood celebrity Hrithik Roshan takes the starring role as a modern explorer in Swiss watchmaker Rado’s current campaign to launch the Captain Cook High-Tech Ceramic. In the new brand video Hrithik is seen walking through the wilderness and embracing its spirit at the peak. In this immersive experience with nature he embodies the ethos and curiosity of the contemporary voyager, eager to discover and feel with abandon.

The culmination of many years of research and development, the Captain Cook High-Tech Ceramic represents Rado DNA in its purest form. It features a number of the brand’s most stellar achievements, including the innovative high-tech ceramic monobloc case construction, scratch-resistant and hypoallergenic high-tech ceramic, and the premium Rado calibre R734, whose anti-magnetic NivachronTM hairspring protects the timepiece from magnetic fields.

The four new Captain Cook High-Tech Ceramic models feature a 43mm diameter high-tech ceramic case, three in black high-tech ceramic with high-tech ceramic or rubber bracelets and the fourth in the distinctive plasma high-tech ceramic case and bracelet. All are powered by the Rado calibre R734 with 80-hour power reserve and water resistance to 30 bar (300m). The dial and case back are crafted in black tinted sapphire crystal, allowing the wearer to admire the inner workings of the skeletonised movement, and Super-LumiNova® details ensure clear visibility in the dark.

The launch of the new Captain Cook High-Tech Ceramic is timed to celebrate a milestone in Hrithik Roshan’s career – the 10th anniversary of his premiere as global brand ambassador for the renowned Swiss watchmaker. Raising the bar with every appearance, he has grown from strength to strength with Rado. His dedication to his art, and his ability to reinvent himself in new roles mirror Rado’s dedication to continuous innovation in design and materials. In Hrithik’s development from watch aficionado to collector over the course of a decade, Rado has been a constant for this mega star.

Speaking of the 10th anniversary milestone along with the new campaign launch, Hrithik Roshan said, “Even as time flies, some bonds remain timeless. When Rado first approached me, I was thrilled, I was still discovering my love for watches. Ten years hence, it has become an inseparable part of my personal style. I have always been in search of the next adventure and the new Rado campaign resonates with who I am and hence shooting it was a very introspective experience. It feels nice to be shooting a campaign with a brand that is so close to my heart. The campaign is fresh, it’s young and it talks to someone who is wanting to go beyond their boundaries and live the unexplored. And the new Captain Cook High-Tech Ceramic is a beauty that will rest on your wrist forever. I am sure this campaign will be well received by everyone in India and across the world. Wishing the brand good luck”.

With its many innovative and alluring features, this new Rado highlight is for the adventure lover, who wears his watch as a style statement waiting to be discovered. Charting new territory in vintage style, the Rado Captain Cook High-Tech Ceramic is a natural choice for modern explorers.

Red Focus

The signal is red: the Red Selection by Rado

Red is always a statement. This holds true for the world of watches as well: wearing a red watch demonstrates confidence and the courage to create one’s own style. A red dial is inevitably an eye-catcher, drawing attention to the wrist. Red watches are a rarity and only a few watchmakers have dared to make use of this colour. But then there is Rado, the Swiss watchmaker that has always had a feel for innovative materials and independent designs. With its proven sense of style, Rado combines red dials with different materials and designs to create women’s and men’s watches that are unmistakable signals of style.

It does take a little courage to wear something red. Red is a powerful colour and calls up innumerable associations, most of them positive: red stands for love, passion, energy, courage and vitality. Even if this colour has a tendency to dominate, it’s unbelievably versatile and can be combined with different styles and hues.

Masculine and mystical

Rado shows just how well this works with watches from different collections, for example the sporty Captain Cook. The dial presents a dark red colour gradient that ends in black. The black is taken up by a rotating bezel in black high-tech ceramic. A striking three-row stainless steel bracelet enhances the powerful first impression, lending it an aura as mystical as it is masculine.

Feminine and sensual

I got my red watch on tonight – confident women consider the Rado True with cherry-red dial and four sparkling diamonds to be a watch that lends any evening dress a touch of glamour. The round case flows smoothly into the bracelet and, with the velvety brilliance of the black high-tech ceramic, completes the elegant appearance of the 30-mm diameter watch. The slightly larger True Secret Automatic has a particularly sensual effect, giving up its secret through a window in the deep red dial and permitting a glance at the balance spring, the oscillating heart of the mechanical movement. Twelve diamonds replace the numerals and signal pure luxury – a genuine declaration of love in red.

For all watch fans who desire something out of the ordinary but prefer cooler colours, Rado recommends the True Secret or the True with an intense petrol dial. Combined with the metallic shimmer of plasma high- tech ceramic these versions emit a mysterious coolness and uncanny, magical charm.

Ash Barty Wins Australian Open!

Rado ambassador Ash Barty has booked a huge win before her home crowd in Melbourne, capturing her third Grand Slam title in a convincing performance against Danielle Collins. A dream come true for the World Number 1 and her fans, Ash’s victory represents the first time an Australian has won the women’s Australian Open since Christine O’Neil in 1978.

After her victory in Melbourne and at the Adelaide International in early January, Ash remains unbeaten in the new season. Following her triumph at Wimbledon last year and in Paris (Roland Garros) in 2019, Ash has now booked her third Grand Slam singles title.

According to her childhood coach, Ash hit the first ball he tossed to her right back to him – when she was four years old. A Junior Wimbledon Champion at 15 and three-time Grand Slam Doubles finalist at 17, Ash became Australia’s highest-ranked player at 21 and the World Number 1 at just 23. In addition to her 14 career singles titles, Ash has won 12 career doubles titles, playing with different partners. Now 25, Ash enjoys a well-earned reputation as one of the WTA’s most dynamic and talented players.

Ash Barty’s Rado connection goes back to 2017, when she joined the Swiss watchmaker’s YoungStar programme. With Rado she shares an abiding love of the game, unwavering determination and a passion for endlessly inventive and creative play.

Ash Barty serves today as an ambassador for Rado, who stand with tennis fans everywhere in taking pride in her achievements and stature as one of the greatest players in the game.

Rado has been a committed supporter of tennis and sponsor of international tournaments for over 30 years and is the Official Timekeeper for a range of tournaments around the world.

HyperChrome Ash Barty Limited Edition

Ash Barty and Rado turn to art to help wishes come true

This summer, artist and athlete combine as WTA World #1 tennis player and Rado Ambassador Ash Barty joins forces with acclaimed Australian artist Ashvin Harrison to create a one-off artwork that will be auctioned for charity.

An exciting Australian painter and draftsman, Ashvin’s work has featured in exhibitions and publications nationally. His pieces are composed with an interesting balance of monochrome structures next to colorful details that represent the complexities of human emotion and connection. In this collaboration, Ash, under the guidance of Ashvin, contributes the colour and energy to the final work by hitting paint-laden tennis balls at the canvas to complement Ashvin’s monochrome structure.

The art-for-charity project is initiated by Swiss watchmaker Rado who, in partnership with internationally renowned online art gallery Singulart, will auction the vibrant final artwork, the tennis balls and racquet used in its creation and a limited edition Rado HyperChrome Ash Barty timepiece. All proceeds will be donated to the Make-A-Wish® Australia to help grant wishes for children with critical illness. It is their mission to grant the wish of every eligible child - a quest sparked by the belief that a wish is integral to a child’s treatment.

Rado CEO Adrian Bosshard is excited to see the final artwork and is looking forward to the artwork being auctioned. “Art and design is in the DNA of the Rado brand. To combine the talent of our ambassador Ash, and the creativity of Ashvin with the design ethos of Rado is a once in a lifetime opportunity. We are proud to be part of this project and look forward to seeing an excellent auction result for the Make-A-Wish.” Mr. Bosshard said.

Florence classic

Rado revisits Renaissance Florence

Rado revisits Renaissance Florence
Swiss watchmaker Rado has taken a fresh look at its Florence collection, named after the Italian city at the heart of the Renaissance. Like Renaissance artists themselves, the new Florence Classic collection takes inspiration from the enduring beauty of classical Greek and Roman art and architecture. The soaring towers and graceful domes of Renaissance Florence find contemporary reflections in the elegant lines and harmonious proportions of the new models in polished stainless steel. They are presented in sets of complementary men’s and women’s models with slim profiles and tapered seven-link bracelets, each pair an ideal gift for couples.

This re-interpretation of the popular Rado line presents a number of finely finished new design elements, immediately evident in the elegant pair featuring a black lacquered dial held in a polished stainless steel case and bezel beneath a curved sapphire crystal with newly developed bevelled and metallised black edges. Rhodium-plated hands glide above four full-cut diamonds set as indexes at hours 3, 6, 9 and 12. Their sparkling presence is underscored and celebrated in the new Florence Classic collection by the return, of the famous Jubilé logo. First used to indicate the use of genuine top-class – rather than synthetic – diamonds, its reappearance is an elegant evocation of the brand’s past and present dedication to the highest quality in materials and design. The logo is printed here in a silver hue above the date window at 6 o’clock. This classic Rado model is further enhanced by the use of polished stainless steel for crown and bracelet, the latter a true 7-link version with newly designed lugs.

A second pair presents the curved sapphire crystal with bevelled and metallised yellow gold-coloured band surrounding a sunbrushed white dial with yellow gold-coloured hands and indexes mounted at 3, 6, 9 and 12 o’clock. The yellow gold colour of the bezel, crown and metallisation band is reprised on the polished stainless steel bracelet with three alternating middle links in yellow gold PVD. These are only two of the 7 pairs – 14 models in all – comprising the new Florence Classic collection.

Inspired by the light in the streets of Florence

The play of light and shadow in Florentine streets finds an echo in contrasting surface hues throughout the collection. Each of the new designs comes in matching 38 and 30mm diameter models for men and women. Stainless steel cases are a slim 8.7 and 7.8 mm high, respectively, and are worn with 7-link stainless steel bracelets tapering to 19 and 15.8 mm. All bracelets are fashioned in polished and/or coloured stainless steel, offering supple flexibility and exceptional wearer comfort thanks to an innovative lug design and true 7-link construction.

Rado Florence Classic men’s and women’s watches are three-hand models with a date at 6 o’clock. All are powered by robust Rado R073/R079 quartz movements featuring PreciDrive and HeavyDrive technologies, which ensure enhanced accuracy and improved resistance to shocks. All models are water resistant to 5 bar (50 metres).

The Art of Ceramic

The denomination "Master of Materials" did not happen by chance. It is the result of unrelenting research and development, backed by a courageous desire to experiment and imagine all things possible.

The denomination "Master of Materials" did not happen by chance. It is the result of unrelenting research and development, backed by a courageous desire to experiment and imagine all things possible. Rado has been riding that exciting wave of innovation since its foundation in 1917. Its keen eye for timeless materials and unique ways of making use of their finest properties, have made the brand name famous, in the watchmaking profession and beyond, all around the world. The motto of the early days “if we can imagine it, we can make it” is still true today.

For some, science is everything. The endless search for newness, the timeless principles and explorative calculations carve the logical, scientific road to the promising land of discovery. For others, it's more about feeling, about putting one's hand forward, touching or sensing — a new surface, a colour, or some indescribably special texture almost beyond words.

Having a high-tech ceramic Rado in the palm of your hand somehow unites those different worlds. The scientist suddenly realises the extraordinary thing before her, all the work and the hours of dreaming, testing and shaping, that somehow created a fabulous watch out of noble chemical dust. In a moment, the words "Master of Materials" make absolute sense. Not far away, the sensory individual feels the surface, like a sweet song under one's fingertips, or the cool smoothness that no other substance could ever pretend to have, and he smiles, "What does this remind me of exactly?.." "A scent, a flavour, a piece of music?.."

Now, there is something almost mystical, in a world where pleasure can be short-lived, to have the possibility of reaching for an object that is not only durable but almost eternal. Ashes-to-ashes and dust- to-dust notwithstanding, what if human creativity and high-tech wits had truly found a way to build a piece of eternity with just simple ceramic dust? What would such an object feel like?

This is exactly what Rado high-tech ceramic is all about. It's why we say, "Feel it." The ancient origins of its base material render its durability almost inevitable, but it is indeed a great testimonial to the know-how and experience of the "Master of Materials" that it has proven to be true. High-tech ceramic is a beautifully light substance, and one that also resists wear magnificently. Its lightness and great dimensional stability have also made possible some tremendous and unique innovations at Rado, such as the monobloc construction — where primary movement components are actually fastened directly into the case, without the heavy metallic framework.

In itself, all that might be enough qualities to love, in one exceptional material, but surprisingly, it doesn't stop there. Not only is ceramic durable and impervious to almost everything, it has a rare silkiness to the touch that makes for exquisite comfort against the skin. Place it over a human wrist — fine, large, gentle or rugged, and it feels like it was made to be there — since forever. This is of course particularly true for timepieces making use of ceramic elements also in their bracelet, where the sensory experience becomes total and absolutely unforgettable.

"It feels like nothing else."

Scientists and poets also agree, when it comes to the wonders of ceramic, that good looks and aesthetics can actually be finely tuned and adjusted through chemistry and expertise. In bold and clever gestures closer to alchemy than hard industry, extraordinary changes in final colour can be triggered by particular conditions, rare minerals or gases set to just the right pressures and temperatures. Such is the creativity andknow-how,behindinnovativeceramicspecialitiessuchasCeramosTM andplasmahigh-techceramic. Visual music shaped by lasers and diamonds, the dance of the future, creating the surface of things to come. Feel it.

CAPTAIN COOK HIGH-TECH CERAMIC “The Pink Dial Project”

Rado is proud to support “The Pink Dial Project” organised by Revolution and other publications to mark the Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Year 2021 marks a rebirth, around the world, as creativity and the eternal human drive for survival find their voices once again. Behind the scenes, nonetheless, diseases such as breast cancer remain a challenge, drawing on the efforts of the medical community as well as sparking numerous campaigns to ensure that the subject remains in the public eye. One such campaign is "The Pink Dial Project", organised to mark Breast Cancer Awareness Month, in October this year. Created by the publications Time+Tide, Fratello, Eye of Jewelry, Revolution, The Rake and joint contributor Eric Ku, this special project features an auction to raise funds for research, treatment and wider awareness over the illness. High-end watchmakers were contacted, including Rado, to request a single, one-off "pièce unique" to be auctioned off at the October event, with the full proceeds then being donated to charity. Promotion for the project is a broad, multimedia affair, in print, online as well as on social media, and it will provide an excellent opportunity for favourite, global brands to publicly show their collective solidarity. Rado is proud to participate in this special auction, as its own connection with innovation and the ideals of courage and determination, are long-standing attributes of the brand. Relentless and dedicated medical research, scientific discovery and extreme journeys through rugged wilderness share many fundamentals, never far from authentic, deep courage. This one-off in pink trim, created around our Captain Cook High-Tech Ceramic model, is the suitably most "badass" timepiece to match the organisers' request. We are looking forward to the auction, sure that it will be a positive, resounding success, to support this very noble cause. The Captain Cook model is one of Rado’s most iconic timepieces. Bold and expressive in design, it is also built using the most cutting-edge technologies: a matt plasma high-tech ceramic case with monobloc construction, an R734 automatic movement with an 80-hour power reserve and Nivachron™ antimagnetic hairspring, as well as a contrasting matt/polished plasma ceramic-link bracelet and a titanium triple-fold clasp with Ceramos™ release. For the fundraising special event “The Pink Dial Project”, the one-off timepiece to be auctioned will feature, inside the stainless steel bezel with matt plasma ceramic insert, a stunning pink flange to honour the colour internationally associated with breast cancer. Neatly, the colour complements the ruby backplate and rhodium tone of the moving-anchor symbol beautifully. Its case-back will also carry an engraved, special decoration with the organiser's "REVOLUTION" logo and the mention "UNIQUE PIECE" to ensure that the event and charitable cause will long be remembered. Other features such as the box-shaped sapphire crystal with antireflective coating on both faces, the appliquéd indices and rhodium-coloured hands, both treated with white Super-LumiNova®, and water resistance to a pressure of 30 bar (300m) are identical to those of other Captain Cook models.

TRUE X GREAT GARDENS OF THE WORLD

The new line, aptly named the Rado True x Great Gardens of the World collection.

Timeless Nature, an eternal design
The wild spontaneity of Nature — its organic, sometimes dramatic forms, textures and colours, have forever kindled human creativity. Nature's majesty and power over us all has shaped the human psyche through the ages, with that potent mixture of awe and respect that feeds the highest creative process. Painters, sculptors, composers, gardeners and yes, watchmakers, were never immune from Nature's nearmagical input in defining who we are and how we express ourselves.

When Rado confirmed their partnership with Grandi Giardini Italiani in 2017, a delightful occasion arose, to bring together their shared interest in design, beauty and nature at its best. For the two, arriving at these values from quite different directions provided new possibilities, a broader, richer outlook of great creative energy. The positive atmosphere of those early contacts sparked a new collection: the Rado True Thinline Nature. In the years since, the product has matured and is now — dare we say — in full bloom, with three new models celebrating exceptional design, eternal nature and futuristic materials, in equal measure. The new line, aptly named the Rado True x Great Gardens of the World collection, undeniably represents a stunning achievement of great subtlety and harmony, obvious at very first glance. Oak leaves share a whisper of the grand and glorious power of nature and her place in eternity, while a heady scent of jasmine enchant us into new places of fabulous surprise and sensuality.

The first in the series or "Chapter 1" is a gorgeous and inspired timepiece, with a case and bracelet in turquoise ceramic, that timeless substance which speaks to many senses at once. Cradled in that smooth and luminous monobloc case is a mother-of-pearl dial of matching shade, with fine decorations in beautifully complementary technics, filigree and cloisonné-style organic elements with nature-inspired motifs and jasmine flowers, unobstructed behind the rose-gold coloured hands. At each index, a Top Wesselton diamond adds delicate notes of brilliance to the dial, behind a sapphire crystal with antireflective coating on both faces. The case back, in titanium, carries a smoked sapphire crystal window that allows admiring glimpses at the Rado calibre R763 movement, a marvellous piece of technology in itself.

The second model or "Chapter 2" wears a more mysterious air, like music in an evening forest or an enchanted midnight visit with a special friend. Black high-tech ceramic case, matching mother-of-pearl dial with bright jasmine flowers, rose-gold coloured hands and a Top Wesselton diamond at each index — sparkling joy under midnight sky. On the underside, a black PVD-coated titanium back with a smoked sapphire crystal, for the curious or the introspective wearer. Inside the timepiece, the same Rado calibre R763 movement as found in the other versions, equipped with a NivachronTM antimagnetic hairspring, for the same exceptional protection and accuracy.

"Chapter 3" wears its own enigma and sophistication, possibly in slightly more luxurious surroundings, maybe in an urban setting. Witness to a proud and confident walk between a lovely dinner, the sacred gardens and the concert hall, its sparkling diamonds and the deep night reflected upon its mother-of-pearl dial, carry a statement of great achievement with more yet to come. The finely engraved oak leaf patterns speak of Nature's vital place in human existence. The hand gently brushes against the cool and smooth ceramic case, a timeless delight and a clear reminder of humanity's capacity for innovation, charm and eternal adaptation.

Indeed, the Great Gardens of the World are an enduring testimonial of the power of human creativity and bold, unrelenting survival instincts — through the ages, at times challenged but ever healed by care and courage, often by human hand. The same hand that masterfully shapes, sculpts and carves, every tiny part that becomes a magnificent timepiece, or a fabulous, inspiring garden.

About Great Gardens of the World

In most countries, since time immemorial, gardens have been commissioned by kings, popes, sultans and industrial leaders, and used as showcases of their good taste, power and presumed authority over nature. It was only in the late 19th century that gardens began to open up and be considered for community use, and nature itself appreciated as a vital element of our existence, here on this small blue planet. In recent times, gardens have become a kind of modern agora, where people meet and mix, and some of the best designs are often funded by private or public foundations.

It was therefore natural, quite literally, for a future-thinking brand such as Rado to build a bond with the Great Gardens of the World organisation. The journey began in 2017 with Grandi Giardini Italiani and now, the group includes sites and institutions in numerous countries, often featuring some of the world's best landscape designers. Our special thanks to them, for sharing their creativity and vision with the rest of the world, and equal thanks to the Great Gardens of the World organisation, for their unwavering contribution to the human experience, in ways that are, all at once, spiritual, organic and magnificently visual.

True Square x Thukral & Tagra, Over the Abyss

Rado is once again very proud to announce its newest addition to the True Square Collection.

Rado is once again very proud to announce its newest addition to the True Square Collection, the True Square “Over the Abyss”. A design collaboration with New Delhi artist duo Thukral and Tagra. A timepiece that presses on our temporality as individuals and highlights the importance of our connection with others. Jiten Thukral and Sumir Tagra’s work focuses on something that is intrinsic to humans but sometimes forgotten in modern societies: the relationship of us individuals to our communities. This is why their work is often described as social design. The duo always tries to understand their existence and questions the status quo, thus naming their work: Over the abyss. The Indian duo included their focus on social design to create together with the Master of Materials a timepiece with a unique time display that superimposes the local time of the wearer to several time zones of the world. These different time zones are symbolized by 37 hands that are painted in a gradation of colours ranging from blue to pink, and looking like enchanting fireworks in the middle of the dial. Two discrete but mighty SuperLuminova dots indicate the local time. The captivating dial with colour strikes is encapsulated by a 38mm matt blue high-tech ceramic case of square shape with gently rounded corners, an homage to Rado’s iconic shape from the 70s and updated for the 21st century. The case back features a painting by the duo called Dominus Aeries that explores visions from the future with references from the past. Therefore, both front and back are beautiful art expressions of Thukral and Tagra. With the True Square Over the Abyss, Rado and Thukral and Tagra aim to connect people through a timepiece that is universal, unique and of course smooth, comfortable and durable like is common from the Swiss watchmaker from Lengnau.

True Square x Yuan Youmin, True Heart

A truly “balanced” design collaboration
A millennia-old culture meets minimalist design, Chinese craftsmanship meets Swiss precision. Yuan Youmin – graphic designer, lecturer and curator – has drawn inspiration from traditional elements of his homeland China, and together with Rado, created an exceptional timepiece. The new True Square x Yuan Youmin unites West and East, yesterday and today with elaborate details and the latest methods worthy of a Master of Materials.

For the latest Rado True Square design collaboration, the renowned graphic designer Yuan Youmin drew inspiration from the fascinating cultural history of China, combined with modern minimalism. The traditional steelyard served as a motif. This important measuring instrument has been anchored into Chinese everyday life for almost two thousand years. It consists of a rod with markings, a weighing tray and a movable counterweight.

The new watch picks up on some of these elements stylised in its design. The recessed, round dial in the centre, for example, represents the weighing tray, the lever arms of the steelyard become the slender hands, and the traditional hexadecimal dot graduation serves as the basis for the design of the hour markings. Their yellow gold colour has also been chosen carefully. It traditionally stands for the pure heart and honesty of the tradesman working with the steelyard. The four segments that connect the round dial with the angular case feature polished black lacquer, a further classic Chinese technique. Yuan ultimately chose the image of a phoenix, the famous symbol of eternal rebirth, for the case back of the watch.

The craftsmanship of the watch is just as refined and sophisticated as its design. The basis was the new ground-breaking True Square – the first watch made from solid high-tech ceramic with rounded edges, whose flowing shapes are created using injection moulding. It unmistakably bears the signature of the watchmaker from Lengnau and impresses with pioneering materials, innovative design, scratch-proof longevity and a pleasant, sensual feel. The new Rado True Square x Yuan Youmin is driven by a Swissmade automatic calibre with an 80-hour power reserve. Traditions passed down through the generations and the latest materials thus create a sophisticated timepiece combining cultures and epochs.

Captain Cook x Marina Hoermanseder

The substance of eternity meets spunky design.

After years of exploring timeless materials of extraordinary strength and enticing mystery, Swiss watchmaker Rado launches a new line to celebrate women, and femininity in its myriad forms. The master of unusual substances is teaming up with the profoundly original (and of decidedly unusual substance) French-Austrian designer Marina Hoermanseder for a brand-new version of its Captain Cook timepiece — an exquisitely bold and totally empowering piece of watchmaking elegance. Buckle up for the ride, for Marina loves experimenting with colour, forms and materials, and this latest Rado brings together what she loves best — upbeat, breathtaking design — around a state-of-the-art movement and timepiece by the famous Swiss brand. Strength, bravery and originality have been hallmarks of the feminine universe since time began. Rado has chosen to underline those timeless values alongside Marina Hoermanseder, in a statement of great uniqueness, joyful celebration and truly affirmed personality. The new and stylish 37mm timepiece features some of Marina's signature elements, such as her trademark buckle and leather strap in expressive and exuberant pink, with a matching cylindrical watch case adorned with the Marina Hoermanseder logo. The watch is at once graceful and powerfully feminine, marked with Marina's all-inclusive, daring creativity that has charmed many top celebrities, from Lady Gaga to Paris Hilton. Clearly, as women, they are shining examples of character, originality and courage, aspects that Rado wishes to highlight in its collaboration with the dynamic, multi-faceted designer. Additionally, the new timepiece is a marvellous occasion to show the brand's own long-term watchmaking artfulness, with exquisite details such as the rose-gold-coloured elements in the hands, indices and case. In respect of women's preference for a range of choices, the new Rado is delivered with three watch straps, in pink, black and an original, extra-long version, also pink, meant to go twice around the wrist. This smart arrangement allows the watch and MH buckle to end up on the same side of the wearer's arm, a neat and playful touch. The straps are all equipped with EasyClip fittings to allow for quick change, in harmony with the wearer's predisposition or mood of the moment. It's all very stylish, with just the right amount of bling, and the various components find a safe home in the handsome pink carrying case, also equipped with buckle closures. Immerse yourself — indeed up to 100 metres — in the playful, spunky world of the new Rado Captain Cook x Marina Hoermanseder.

Captain Cook High-Tech Ceramic

Past meets 2021. Rado’s iconic Captain Cook is unveiled for the first time in the Master of Materials’ preferred material: High-Tech Ceramic

2021: a year of hope and reinvention is the time chosen to reveal a timepiece without precedent, and that is here to revolutionise. The Captain Cook High-Tech Ceramic is the culmination of many years of research and development together with the history and tradition of the Rado Captain Cook. The further development of the Captain Cook collection in high-tech ceramic is Rado’s DNA in its purest form. It features some of the brand’s most stellar achievements such as Rado’s innovative high-tech ceramic monobloc case construction, scratch-resistant and hypoallergenic high-tech ceramic, powered by the premium Rado calibre R734 featuring a Nivachron™ hairspring. The innovative Nivachron™ hairspring provides an advantage in everyday life by protecting the timepiece from magnetic fields. The Captain Cook Ceramic is presented for the first time in a case size of 43mm, and in four versions. A first version in black high-tech ceramic case and bracelet with a hardened stainless steel turning bezel and black high-tech ceramic insert. A second model holds this same case and dial but is offered with a rubber strap for those who prefer a more casual look. A third version is offered similarly in black hightech ceramic case and bracelet but with contrasting rose gold coloured PVD coated stainless steel turning bezel, and black high-tech ceramic insert. Followed by the fourth model, a highly distinct plasma high-tech ceramic case and bracelet, with hardened stainless steel bezel, and blue high-tech ceramic insert. All the references are powered by the Rado calibre R734 characterised by a strong 80 hours power reserve, and up to 30 bar (300m) water resistance. The dial and case back are stunningly crafted in black tinted sapphire crystal allowing its wearer to explore and admire the inner workings of the skeletonised movement in a subtle manner, whilst still proving to be legible. As the triangle on the bezel, the indexes, and the classic Captain Cook chunky arrow hands on the dial are filled with white SuperLumiNova® providing clear visibility in the dark. This magnificent sapphire dial is also home to the iconic Rado rotating anchor at 12 o’clock, and is protected by a chevé box sapphire crystal. The new Captain Cook Ceramic is a mechanical masterpiece that needs to be felt to appreciate its lightness and wearer comfort besides its stunning looks. The Captain Cook High-Tech Ceramic is Rado’s DNA at its fullest. Welcome aboard.

RADO TRUE THINLINE STILLNESS

Strength lies in tranquillity

Time is the greatest luxury in modern life. Yet it is not the only coveted commodity in the fast-paced, colourful, noisy everyday life of the 21st century. Renowned trend researcher Li Edelkoort recognises a growing need for stillness and clarity, for authenticity and meaning in modern society. Together with Rado, she has now created a watch that reflects this zeitgeist. The Rado True Thinline Stillness invites you to intentionally take your time. In every single moment and for a lifetime.

A new era

Li Edelkoort is one of the most well-known trend researchers of our time. Her accurate analyses not only offer insights into current trends, but also sketch out a vision of tomorrow’s society. She currently sees an increasing need to slow down the pace: “People are taking time to question the meaning of life and work, to think about withdrawal and simplicity, about commonality and complexity,” says Li Edelkoort.

It’s about more than just respite. “People are finally ready to change their behaviour and break free from their shopping addiction,” notes the trend researcher. “The industry will respond to this, slimming down designs and producing responsible products that last. But that doesn’t mean we will stop making beautiful things – on the contrary. The focus will be on less and better, reduced and exceptional, sustainable and intuitive.” Rado is once again a pioneer in this respect. The future-oriented “Master of Materials” works with extremely durable, scratch-resistant materials and focuses on clear, slender shapes and a sensual feel.

A new, long-lasting companion

Rado has been in close contact with the Dutch trend researcher for many years. Now, for the first time, Li Edelkoort is presenting a timepiece in her name together with the Swiss watchmaker. The flowing shapes of the ultra-flat True Thinline served as inspiration, combining two of our most prominent innovations: scratch-resistant hightech ceramic and the pioneering monobloc construction. The watch is presented for the first time in the new Rado packaging, which is all about reusability. Its centrepiece is a small high-quality box made from recycled plastic that can be used as a travel case. It is accompanied by a card holder made from black cardboard. Instructions for use are omitted in favour of a QR code.

Overall, the new model delivers a modern interpretation of the design concept “less is more”. The 5 mm thin, warm-white high-tech ceramic case measuring 39 mm in diameter is adorned with a titanium back with sapphire crystal, which bears the words “STILLNESS Lidewij Edelkoort SINCE 2020”. A white dial is presented under curved white frosted-effect sapphire crystal. White hour and minute hands, a transparent Rado logo and a high-tech ceramic bracelet in a matching colour complete the monochromatic look of this contemporary Swiss-made quartz watch.

Telling the time becomes a deliberately contemplative moment with the Rado True Thinline Stillness. “Knowing that time is in our hands while also forgetting it at the same time,” is how Li Edelkoort describes it. “Freeing ourselves from the hustle and bustle of our daily lives by extending awareness for a second, realising the majesty of a minute and grasping the empathy of an hour.” In this way, the new model gives us something that can be enjoyed anew every day: a moment of stillness and meaningfulness.

The Rado Winter Selection 2020/2021

Time for something new

One year comes to an end, a new one begins. And it opens up infinite possibilities. What will we be making time for next year? As a watch manufacturer that always keeps an eye on the future, Rado provides several answers to that question. We have put together a selection of watches that are not only ideal as a starting point for new ideas, dreams and adventure. They are also real partners for life. Their time has come.

Time for strength: Captain Cook Automatic

The Captain Cook, which celebrated its premiere back in 1962, is presented with clean lines and exciting details in its contemporary reissue. Scratch-resistant sapphire crystal, a bezel made from high-tech ceramic and water resistance up to 10 bar provide increased resilience. The 37 mm diameter and the snow-white design make it a perfect companion whatever the occasion.

Time for a glimpse behind the scenes: True Square Automatic Open Heart

This timepiece has nothing to hide. The True Square Automatic Open Heart offers glimpses into its inner workings with an open heart. Yet its exterior also has plenty to offer: a case made from white high-tech ceramic and an intricately cut dial with golden accents and 12 diamond indexes will attract everyone’s attention.

Time for what’s important: True Square Quartz

The Rado True Square brings a real Rado classic up to date. It is the first high-tech ceramic watch whose monobloc case with gently rounded corners has been produced using injection moulding. This results in flowing shapes and a close fit. They are joined here by a mother of pearl dial, golden elements and four glittering diamond indexes.

Time for truth: True Diamond Quartz

No matter what the design: the True will always stay true to you. Its case and the bracelet made from white high-tech ceramic maintain its flawless beauty, and its gentle curves can not only be seen but also felt. Diamond indexes, a mother of pearl dial and golden shimmer lend a touch of glamour to this charming version with a 30 mm diameter.

Time to shine: True Thinline Quartz

The True Thinline is not only the Rado with the flattest profile, it also shows how much character can lie in a puristic design. Two hands, a round, polished white monobloc case and a bracelet made from high-tech ceramic make a clear style statement. The glistening dial reflects the light in a multi-faceted way, thus adding surprising yet shimmering accents.

Time for individuality: Diamaster Automatic

Absolutely unique: the Diamaster Automatic takes traditional elements of watchmaking, such as a skeletonised dial, the sunray motif and the finest diamonds, and turns them into something completely new. This sophisticated ladies’ watch presents mechanical watchmaking in a modern way and dresses it in a case made from pioneering plasma high-tech ceramic.

Time for an open heart: Centrix Open Heart Automatic

True beauty comes from within – this is proven by the Centrix Open Heart Automatic with its generous dial cut-outs, which show the mechanical watch movement in motion. Diamonds, mother of pearl and rose gold-coloured elements meet white hightech ceramic and stainless steel with a PVD coating. The result: a truly sensual dimension of timekeeping that can be seen, heard and felt.

RADO TRUE SQUARE YOY

Artistic instead of artificial intelligence: our collaboration with the Japanese design duo YOY

In the middle of the digital age, the Japanese design duo YOY is giving one of our best-known faces an update that is as contemporary as it is analogue. The True Square Undigital combines two real design icons. The angular bars of the digital display meet the square Rado ceramic watch. But not everything is as it seems at first glance… This watch is truly smart. And absolutely undigital.

The unique high-tech ceramic case of the True Square provides the appropriate setting and, thanks to its innovative monobloc construction, is ultra-flat at only 9.6 mm high. The matt black PVD-coated titanium back and the smooth, matt black high-tech ceramic bracelet also contribute to the low weight of the watch. Style icons, contemporary design talents, innovative manufacturing technologies and high-tech materials that impress with a unique feel, durability and scratch resistance: the Rado True Square Undigital combines everything that makes Rado what it is. The watch is driven by a modern mechanical movement whose automatic winding is not only a work of art in itself but also a role model in terms of sustainability – in other words, completely undigital.

Rado True Square x Tej Chauhan

Souvenirs of the future

Our latest design collaboration brings us back to the future in style: the emotional design language of award-winning British industrial designer Tej Chauhan meets Rado, famous for its pioneering design. With flowing shapes, innovative high-tech ceramic and bold colours, the Rado True Square Tej Chauhan visualises the great futuristic visions of pop culture.

At Rado, we have always looked towards the future. We are in good company with that. Artists, directors and architects repeatedly try to define the aesthetics of tomorrow with futuristic creations. Many of their spacey, colourful, revolutionary designs have already achieved cult status – regardless of what the future may bring.

Design inspiration for this collaboration came from the enduring futurist visions from popular culture, from movies to typography to colour theory. For his personal interpretation of a “near future”, Tej Chauhan found the ideal partner in Rado: “We strategically use shape, colour and material to bring joy to people. This common foundation of materials, colour and contrast made the collaboration with Rado an absolutely natural process.”

The basis was the new, ground-breaking True Square – the first square watch made from solid high-tech ceramic, whose flowing shapes are created using injection moulding. The matt yellow high-tech ceramic case highlights the unique texture of the high-performance material and is combined with a case back in polished dark grey PVDcoated stainless steel with sapphire crystal and special engraving. It is complemented by a bracelet made from yellow cushion-shaped leather elements held by high-tech ceramic connectors. A stainless steel folding clasp with a dark grey PVD coating completes the composition.

On the matt black dial with silver-coloured concentric circles, the hands provide strong contrasts from the centre: the minute and hour hands are painted in white, the second hand in neon red. They are powered by a modern automatic calibre. In an opening at 3 o’clock, the date is displayed in a typography specially designed by Tej Chauhan. Blue indexes between 9 and 12 o’clock refer to the time of day when things start moving – in the morning at the office or in the evening on a night out. Faceted sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating on the inside provides the best insights and impresses as an independent design element.

At Rado, we love combining our creativity and innovation with the inventiveness of contemporary designers. The new True Square Tej Chauhan is the latest example of this tireless passion. It is with much delight for us to share this magnificent vision of the future with the world.

Rado True Square FormaFantasma

The Rado True Square Formafantasma – a design collaboration with the award-winning Italian-Dutch design duo that gives its name to the watch– is sticking with tradition with a side of mystery.

Taking the base of the ground-breaking new full high-tech ceramic True Square, this special design edition draws on the historic idea of a closed watch to create a bold and impactful style statement that is designed to stand the test of time.

The idea of the closed watch refers back to historical pocket watches. The housing of the watch was made to protect the delicate dial and mechanism inside. Only a small opening gave a glimpse of the time – the true function of the watch.

The True Square Formafantasma uses an extra layer of high-tech ceramic as the ultimate scratch-resistant protective layer in which a small window for the dial has been made. The window itself is protected by sapphire crystal, yet another super scratchresistant layer.

As is typical for the Master of Materials, multiple materials are integrated into this watch. The bracelet is also matt light grey high-tech ceramic titanium with a comfortable 3-fold clasp, and the titanium case back is hypoallergenic. They were all chosen for their tactility and embrace a distinct, unusual light grey tone-on-tone approach.

The design comes not only from the inspiration of pocket watches, but also from the name of the design duo themselves. The ghostly appearance comes from both the monochromatic light grey construction and the ‘floating’ presence of the dial through the small aperture.

Smooth, light and comfortable to wear, the True Square family meets every Rado requirement. 30 years after the creation of the iconic Ceramica, we’re able to create a square monobloc case using our pioneering injection moulding technology. Only Rado has the technology and we’re proud to launch the first ever square high-tech ceramic watch with an injected monobloc case.

With its high-quality Swiss-made movement, pure high-tech ceramic case and bracelet construction and outstanding design, the True Square Formafantasma is the perfect way to protect your precious time.

RADO CAPTAIN COOK BRONZE BURGUNDY

Grandeur on your wrist

One look at the new Captain Cook bronze burgundy dial is all it takes to understand the grandeur of this timepiece. Rado is proud to present its new version of the Captain Cook bronze with the much awaited burgundy high-tech ceramic bezel.

It is not unsual for Rado to make such striking material combinations, and the ‘The Master of Materials’ once again plays with a modern material like high-tech ceramic and the oldest material created by men – bronze. The result is a timepiece that enamours with its brushed bronze case, bronze turning bezel with burgundy high-tech ceramic insert and laser engraved numbers and markers. The burgundy sunray brushed dial clearly contrasts against the yellow gold coloured applied indexes, but blends easily with the classic red-date display from Rado.

Its indexes, numbers, hands and markers are all powered with Super-LumiNova® that allows clear visibility in the dark, and whose looks remain almost untouched from the 1962 original Captain Cook, giving it a natural vintage look. However, diverging from the original, this timepiece is powered with the 11½ Rado calibre 763 movement prodiving 80 hours power reserve.

Red tones are known to be the hardest to be replicated in ceramics, and even more a challenge to be used in watches, that now the watchmaker from Lengnau can add to its many materials’ achievements.

The Captain Cook Bronze Burgundy fulfills all the requirements of a Rado watch, pioneering durable materials, striking design and high functionality that will last a lifetime.
